Eurozone construction output slips in January

(Sharecast News) - Construction output across the eurozone slipped over the month of January, according to Eurostat figures released on Thursday, falling by its most in year-on-year terms in 15 months.
Seasonally adjusted production in construction decreased by 0.1% month-on-month, pulling back slightly after a 0.7% gain in December.

Building construction fell by 3.0% over the month, while civil engineering output dropped 4.4%, outweighing a 1.7% increase for other specialised construction activities.

Slovakia saw the largest monthly falls in output during January, with production falling 5.4%, while Czech Republic and Spain both recorded contractions of 3.5%. The strongest growth was seen in Slovenia (+11.6%) and Bulgaria (+4.0%).

Compared with January 2025, overall construction output across the eurozone dropped 1.9% - the most since October 2024 - registering its first annual fall since June of last year.
