London open: Now it´s Japan´s turn
Fri 10 May 2013
The UK market opened with moderate gains on Friday morning, after a breakout - overnight - by the Japanese Yen, in its cross against the US dollar, apparently stoked risk appetite in capital markets globally. More important perhaps, that move in FX markets is a reflection of the relative fundamental strength of the American economy versus what some hedge-funds seem to consider is a terminally-ill Japan.

London open: Chinese price data worries Nomura
Thu 09 May 2013
UK stocks have moved slightly into the blue following an ephemeral dip just after the 'opening bell,' with Chinese price data on the front-burner in what is expected to be another 'light' day in terms of economic data releases. Today´s meeting of the Monetary Policy Committee is expected to be a non-event as policy-makers opt to maintain policy settings steady ahead of Mark Carney´s arrival in July. A Spanish sovereign debt auction towards 10:00 AM may help to set the tone for other asset classes today.

London open: Stocks higher, but only just
Wed 08 May 2013
British equity markets started the Wednesday session just slightly higher, with the Footsie gaining one point to the 6,559 mark. That followed yesterday´s rise in the Dow Jones Industrials Average to above the 15,000 point mark for the first time in its 117 year history. Nevertheless, some observers are pointing out that when adjusted for different factors, including inflation, it is actually still off its previous peak and in any case is not representative of the underlying reality of the US economy, as it purports to be.
