Silvio Berlusconi may run in 2013 elections

Fri 13 Jul 2012

LONDON (SHARECAST) - There have been rumours in recent days pointing to Silvio Berlusconi as a potential presidential candidate in Italy's 2013 elections.

On Friday, Italian news agencies cited fellow party member Fabrizio Cicchito as indicating that Berlusconi intends to enter the 2013 presidential race as a candidate of the centre-right PDL (People of Freedom) party.

Cicchito is a PDL member of parliament. He made the comments after a party meeting at Berlusconi's residence in Rome.

It is not the first time that the possibility of his candidacy has been reported. Berlusconi himself has provided some hints, criticising government management led by current Prime Minister Mario Monti. He has also discussed the possibility of Italy leaving the Eurozone.
